The Ray Way was developed through intense personal experience, starting with his first long-distance trek in 1987.  He went on to do the other two legs of the Triple Crown of American trails- the Appalachian and Continental Divide.  As he watched other walkers becoming exhausted and discouraged he start to look at ways to make long hikes easier.
